The View Out Back

Sunrise is one of my favorite times to photograph my yard, but I have to admit to loving the light in the spring & summer evenings quite a bit too. What I love most about this picture though is the complete lack of snow. Spring has finally settled in and I could not be more grateful.

My favorite day of the year: leave the door open for the dogs to come & go as they please day. No bugs, no snow, and just warm enough to not freeze my ass off while I work in the room where the door is. I live for this day.

This is what it’s like here today. Cartoon opera angst.

I’m ready for a new view. I miss seeing green… If only actual spring would catch up with calendar spring.

2014 Walk MS

If anyone is looking for a cause to donate to this or next month, I will be participating in the MS Walk in a few weeks in VA and could use your support. I’ve done this event for the last 8 years in honor of my aunt who I am very close with and who was diagnosed with MS over 15 years ago. This is the only cause I ever ask for help with, so please don’t think this is going to be a regular thing nor will I spam it on your dash. *pinkypromise*

My incentive for this year is a one-of-a-kind bracelet for the person who donates the most. You can see the type of bracelets I make here (on my other blog). I would be happy to make a fandom related bracelet if you have a fandom you really love so you can wear your favorite character/show some place fancy, or make something a little more rugged if you prefer. Choice is yours.

If you can’t/would rather not donate (I understand!), I am always open to good wishes for excellent walking weather, and the continued well-being of my aunt and those who suffer from MS like she has been. Every little bit counts whether it’s a dollar or a positive thought.

Thanks so much!

One of the local consignment shops does a big prom dress event in March, so I went down and checked out the inventory so I could make some affordable (I hope!) and somewhat sparkly bracelets to go with the dresses. This is not quite half of what I’m making, but I thought I’d share. The second group will hopefully be done next week. Once I’m done with this event, I’m going to move on to fandom related bracelets.

More beaded bracelets I made for the local prom season.

Loved the shadows from the trees this morning. Might have found the sliver lining to all that fucking snow. ;)

sabaceanbabe replied to your post: No more

That is freaking AWFUL! *hugs you tight*

Thanks. There’s no where to even put the new stuff, there’s so much. I had to break some trails this morning for the dogs to get around and it was up over my knees. Ugh. I am not meant for this climate at all.

Maybe if I mess with the photo enough I can forget the fact that we are getting another half foot or more of this crap.

This is another of my trial bracelets. I love steampunk and pretty much anything copper, so this is my homage to them. The beads are copper colored, gray metallic, copper, tarnished gold, and silvery. This one is about 7” or so and for all of its irregularity, does not catch or pinch. Would love some feedback for future improvements! Thanks!

A foot of snow & 2 snow days later… Time to dig out.

Need to shack up with the Heat Miser

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from living in NH during the winter, it’s that I would make a horrible, horrible Snow Queen. The cold always bothers me every day. Elsa can keep it and I’ll take her share of the warmth.

Normally during the holidays, I make a ton of baklava to send out. Well, after 10 years of that, I needed a break. So this past December, I took a Kumihimo class at the local bead shop and really enjoyed it. I’ve spent the last couple of months tinkering, making mistakes, and coming up with all kinds of ideas that outstrip my skill set (it’s what I do best in life). I thought I would share what I made so far since I’m considering opening up a shop as I get better at this. (These are by no means perfect or representative of what I would sell in the future. But I like doing it enough to keep working at it until I get to that point. So please, kindness is appreciated.)

The top one is supposed to represent the beach as you sit on the sand and look out at the water. I grew up on an island and looking out at the water was something I spent most of my youth doing.

The second, I made for bibliophilefiles and it is a book! I used silver thread with the red beads to represent a nice embossed leather cover and the black beads on the interior strand represent the words in the book (and the white, the pages).

The third picture, is of The Yellow Brick Road I did for my cousin who loves the Wizard of Oz stories (and is a kid’s librarian so I figured she could wear it to work too). When I did this one, I sort of sucked at the math that goes along with figuring out how many beads of what color go where. I definitely want to try this one again because I really like the concept. I also need to give the lion a more contrasty color from the yellow. Otherwise, I liked how it looks like all the characters (in their representative bead) walk along the road.

For my other cousin, who was having a tough year, I made her the orange bracelet so she can remember her “inner fire” when things were dragging her down. All the others are just mix sets of requested favorite colors. The bottom left, for my niece, is called “Mermaid” and I loved the mix of purples and greens.

I would love to get some feedback/suggestions/ideas for other concepts people would like to see made into bracelets. My next set of bracelets are going to be fandom related starting with OUAT’s Captain Hook (for reasons). Ask box is open, so please share your thoughts!

Thanks!
