Rest in peace (and pieces) Mr. Apple Tree. I loved taking your picture from the day we moved into your house. You and your brothers & sisters were one of the reasons we bought the house. Your flowers in spring were delicate & beautiful, your apples, although a big gnarly, were happily eaten by the deer in fall, and your shade and protection were greatly appreciated by the dogs during the hot summers. I loved your nakedness in winter most of all. There are few things in nature as fascinating as the structure of a tree. Your hollow insides, however, were your doom. Although you are gone from my view out back, your warmth will live on for at least another winter as you burn in our fireplace. Thank you, Mr. Apple Tree!
