We’re celebrating Endangered Species Day by bringing attention to the diverse and beautiful canid species around the world that are in danger of becoming extinct. We hope that by learning about these amazing relatives of our well-loved domestic dogs, readers will be encouraged to act to protect these species.

Like a new lover you came to me
Shining and beautiful.
At first I was dazzled and awed
and there were days when I welcomed you,
the enforced quiet you brought.
Sadly, you didn’t know when to stop.
Your beauty became thin to my eyes
I ached from coldness, glimpsed dullness beneath your white armor.
It overwhelmed me and I wished you gone
before your frigid lies were the last words I knew.

Like an ex-lover you leave behind reminders—
reluctant piles of dirty snow in shade,
unwelcome gusts of biting wind across my skin,
a flurry or two in my hair
making you so difficult to forget.
But the sun is out today
longer than it was yesterday
melting what is left of your influence.
I stand tall,
naked,
strong,
waiting.
A tingle along my limbs assuring me
I’m alive.

First day of spring after the last snow of winter (hopefully).

First day of spring after the last snow of winter (hopefully).

Yesterday’s sunrise was way better than today’s....

Yesterday’s sunrise was way better than today’s. I’ll be setting up a couple more locations to buy my prints in the near future (like Etsy and Fine Art America), so check back. At this moment, only my Instagram shots are for sale via Instacanvas and I have several prints matted and available at a local shop. If there’s something of mine out there you’d like but isn’t available either in one of those locations I’ve mentioned or in a format you like, just contact me through my new website.
